Troubleshooting Windows 10



By the passage of time Microsoft Windows 10 is improved and became more stable and reliable but still not perfect. We are facing issues like windows stop responding, crash or shut down unexpectedly and windows goes down. Sometimes we face BSOD (blue screen of death) and system goes to halt.
The good thing is Windows 10 provides tools to diagnose error and recover from those errors. Here I will discuss the ways from which we can survive if we get stuck the situations mentioned above. Here are few measure we can follow;
a)      Built in Troubleshooter
In classic control panel view of Windows 10 you can run Troubleshooter as shown in figure-1 below. 


Click “View All” link on left pane of Troubleshooting page and you can view the expanded list which includes modules for fixing the problems showing in figure-2.


This Troubleshooter lead you through many steps that may ask you to check settings etc. At the end it displays results with detailed information as shown in figure 3.


b)      Windows Error Reporting
Sometimes during your work application hangs or something like that you need to dig out why happened. For this purpose, you go to control panel click on click on Security and Maintenance option in control panel showing fig below. In the fig you can see status column if shows Solution available then you can open by right clicking on it and view solution.


c)      Reliability Monitor

During our daily use Windows 10 keeping track inventory of these events, you need to open Reliability Monitor by typing Reliability Monitor in search box and click on top result showing in fig below;



This tool is very much helpful to resolve the issue facing by your windows OS. It actually maintain the things in graphical and historical mode to track the issues. It may be more helpful when you experience a problem and want to tract its cause. Double clicking to any item will explain its contents which are showing with technical details that are more helpful.

d)     Event Viewer
Event viewer is another tool to troubleshoot and diagnose the issues. You can open by typing “Eventvwr.msc” or from control panel and then administrative tools and “Event Viewer” showing fig below. 



You can view different types of events showing in left pane i.e Application, Security, Setup, System and Forwarded events. From here you can select any type like I selected in System showing in figure below. Now in center pane different events are showing and when you click on any event its detail would be showing below. On right pane you can find Actions related to System event i.e Search, Save, Filter and many actions you can view there.


e)      Troubleshooting with the help of boot options
You can also troubleshoot you operating system with different boot options like boot in safe mode and recovering the problems. Modern hardware also supports UEFI firmware which may be helpful. On sign in screen you can hold down shift key and click power button in the lower right corner of the screen then clicking restart button. It will give some alternative boot menu available some troubleshooting options showing in figure below. You can explore all these options and see how it works.


Conclusion: You can also check these aspects also.
·         You can check if you add new hardware to your computer i.e hard drive, RAM etc.
·         You can also check if there is new Software or Drivers installed.
·         You can follow Microsoft Support.
·         You can check if System BIOS or Firmware updates.
