Remote Desktop Connections Manager

Today I will discuss a tool named Remote Desktop Connections Manager which is very useful tool for Admins in daily use. As we need to use our Server remotely via MSTSC utility which is good utility. But sometimes we need to connect remotely more than one Servers frequently and type again and again its IP Address, Username and Password. In this scenario I got a new tool Remote Desktop Connections Manager. It is very useful tool for our daily usage. You can download this tool from here Remote Desktop Connections Manager.

Installation of this tool is very easy "Next Next" click and done. After installation you will find following path C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Remote Desktop Connection Manager. Here you will find a .exe file "RDCMan" to run and open Interface showing below;

After launching the Interface you can see there a free space which will be used for Servers connections. On top you can see Menu for performing different actions.You can categorize by location or according to your own priority you set. I created groups like "Production" and "Test" Servers showing in figure below;

Now its time to add your Servers in these groups. Right click on "Production Server" and choose "Add Server" option you will see the following figure below where you have to add "IP Address" and "Display Name" also add comment whatever you want.

When you add different Servers in your required groups now you have all you set. It is easy to manage and control your Servers also save time.

Authentication on IIS Web Site

Sometimes you need to apply authentication on IIS Web sites as you want only those users can connect to whom you have given access via user name and password. These users may be from domain or local users on local machine i.e IIS Web Server.

1) For this you need to open IIS Manager from Server Manager --> than Tools --> than Internet Information (IIS) Manager. After opening IIS you will see following window. I have done this Authentication with "Default Web Site", you can see in image below;

2) When you click on "Default Web Site" under "Sites" in left pane, you can see all relevant attributes in center pane related to "Default Web Site". We need to change in "Authentication" here, you can see figure below;

3) You need to double click on "Authentication" option and you will see further options in same pane showing below. Here you have to disable "Anonymous Authentication" and enable "Basic Authentication" for your required task to achieve.

4) Now go to browser and you open web site and press refresh button and you will see pop up window for "Username" and "Password" which you will provide and get access to the web site other you will not get into the web site. This "Username" and "Password" can be from your Active Directory or local machine.
